REP. MEEKHOF ELECTED ASSISTANT REPUBLICAN LEADER

November 13, 2008

State Rep. Arlan Meekhof will help create and advance House Republican policy initiatives after House GOP lawmakers this afternoon elected him as their assistant leader.
Meekhof, a first-term lawmaker from Olive Township, will serve in the leadership position during the 2009-2010 session. The assistant leader helps establish and advance Republican policy initiatives in the Michigan House.
"It's a tremendous honor to be selected by my Republican colleagues to help lead our caucus during the next two years," Meekhof said. "We're in extremely challenging times, but this can be a time of new opportunity as well. We must work to improve our economy, lower taxes and make government more accountable to the people.
"I've also quickly learned that more gets done in Lansing when Republicans and Democrats work together. Given the immense challenges we face in Michigan, the people deserve their elected officials to make the state Capitol a place of common ground, not of political battlefields."
Meekhof currently serves on the House committees for Agriculture and the Great Lakes, along with working on the Intergovernmental, Urban and Regional Affairs committee.
