MELTZER TO HOST SECOND JOB-HUNTING SEMINAR

June 12, 2009

With a 12.6-percent unemployment rate and automakers threatening bankruptcy, state Rep. Kim Meltzer will host a second job-hunting seminar to help families best prepare for the job search.

Meltzer noted that a second town hall was necessary, as interest in the event was much greater than the 200 person limit at the first event.

"Unfortunately, there are many residents out there who need help finding a job and building a resume," said Meltzer, R-Clinton Township. "This second job hunting workshop will guide residents to the information necessary to secure a job in the new economy, and help develop strong research methods to maximize the chances of finding and preparing for the next job opportunity."

Topics discussed at the free town hall will include comprehensive information on job searching and labor outlook Web sites, databases for college admissions, and tests and tutorials for certifications. It will also provide an opportunity to participate in a job search network, a resume review session and learn about the resources available through Michigan.gov and MeL, Michigan E Library.

As more employers are requiring applicants to apply for jobs online, Meltzer said it is critical that Michigan residents know how to use the Internet and the best language to get their application and resume noticed.

The job-hunting seminar takes place on Wednesday, June 24 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the St. Peter's Lutheran Church, located at 17051 24 Mile Road in Macomb Township. St. Peter's is located on the Northwest corners of 24 Mile Rd. and Romeo Plank Road.
